Professor in criminology at the University of Cambridge Anthony Bottoms will be awarded an honorary degree by the UAB in a ceremony which will take place on 22 November at 12 noon and the conference hall of the Rectorat building

Professor Sir Anthony Bottoms is one of the main defenders of humanistic criminal policies grounded on empirical bases. He was educated at Oxford and Cambridge, and became lecturer in criminology at the University of Sheffield. He returned to Cambridge in 1984 to become director of the Institute for Criminology and later director of the Centre for Penal Theory and Penal Ethics.

The new honorary doctor has lectured in the UAB master's degree and bachelor's degree in Criminology, and participated in the events commemorating ten years since the first edition of the master's degree. He also participates in UAB research activity by welcoming UAB researchers for a stay at the Cambridge Institute for Criminology. And in 2016, he inaugurated the 11th Spanish Conference on Criminology, organised by the UAB and the Centre for Legal Studies and Specialised Training. His research lines in subjects such as alternative punishments, quality of life in prisons, and abandonment and reinsertion have greatly influenced criminology experts in Catalonia.

His most important works are Global perspectives on distance: reviewing what we know and looking to the future (2016), Young adult offenders: lost in transition? (2012), Hearing the victim: adversarial justice, crime victims and the State (2010)Alternatives to prison: options for an insecure society (2004), Restorative justice and criminal justice, competing or reconcilable paradigms? (2003) and Prisons and the problem of order (1996).

On the occasion of the investiture, the Social Sciences Library has installed a bibliographical exhibition in the cabinets of the corridor at the entrance to the Library, recreating a crime scene.

We invite you to visit it and follow the clues to solve the murder!
