Catalan clandestine press

On the occasion of the conference Premsa clandestina. Col·loqui internacional. Llengua, cultura, comunicació (UAB Faculty of Communication Studies and Institut d’Estudis Catalans, 11th December 2019), the Library presents two exhibitions, one physical and one virtual, with a sample of clandestine periodicals that were published in Catalonia or in exile between 1939 and 1975, along with related bibliography.

A large part of the documents displayed belong to the UAB Documentation Centre of Communication. The selection aims at being representative of the great variety of publications that arose despite the repression and persecution of any activity contrary to the regime or that simply questioned it. That is the reason why you will find journals in either Catalan or Spanish, journals of a political and social nature and cultural journals, newsletters written by hand or typed in dire conditions and publications of high artistic and intellectual level. Their common ground is, on the one hand, the will to maintain and defend their values and, on the other hand, the extreme difficulty in being published and distributed continuously.
