The Veterinary Biochemistry Unit of the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology is located at the V building of the Bellaterra University Campus. The Unit has been assigned the teaching of Biochemistry in the Degrees of Veterinary and Food Technology (CiTA). In the Degree of Veterinary, the subject of “Biochemistry” and the corresponding part of the “Integrated Laboratory” are taught. Also collaborates in the teaching of the subject “Molecular Bases and Mechanisms of Diseases”. In the Degree of CiTA the Unit is responsible for the subjects “Biochemistry I and II” as well as for the optional subject “Food Biotechnology”. The members of the Unit also collaborate in the teaching of the subjects “Molecular Pathology”, “Molecular and Cellular Biology of Cancer”, “Gene Therapy” and “Transgenic Animals”, corresponding to several Degrees of the Faculty of Biosciences. Likewise, the Unit also takes part in the teaching of several modules of the Master in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Biomedicine. Regarding the research fields, the Unit includes the following research groups located in the Faculty of Veterinary, the Institute of Biotechnology and Biomedicine and the Center for Animal Biotechnology and Gene Therapy: Center for Animal Biotechnology and Gene Therapy:
Bosch Tubert, Maria Fátima Laboratory of Animal Genetic Engineering Faculty of Veterinary: Bassols Teixidó, Anna Group of Biomarkers in Veterinary Medicine Institute of Biotechnology and Biomedicine: Ariño Carmona, Joaquín / Casamayor, Antonio Yeast Molecular Biology Laboratory The Service of Veterinary Clinical Biochemistry is also part of the Unit. This Service is specialized in the determination of different biochemical parameters in samples from various animal species.
