Prohibition years (1920-1933). Joe and Jerry are musicians forced to flee from two rival gangs seeking revenge on each other. Since they cannot find work and the mafia continues to look for them, they decide to dress up as women and play in a female orchestra. Joe (Tony Curtis) is interested in conquering the heart of the lead singer Sugar Kane (Marilyn Monroe), and pretends to be a impotent tycoon, while Jerry (Jack Lemmon) is chased by a millionaire who wants to marry him.
