#EUvsVirus pan-European Hackathon
Description:
The European Commission has created the #EUvsVirus challenge to develop solutions to the challenges posed by the current COVID-19 pandemic. This hackathon will take place on 24, 25 and 26 April and will service to bring together researchers, entrepreneurs, investors and experts from all over Europe to work together in developing solutions simultaneously.

International Conference "From So Far to So Close. Addressing the Refugee Phenomenon: History, Sociology, Technology"
Description:
The conference is divided into three different sessions. The first one will delve around the history of forced displacement in 20th century Europe. The second will develop a sociological perspective about the phenomenon of refugees, tackling different approaches such as research, NGOs and refugee experiences. Finally, the third one will deal with the technological part of the project, setting up a discussion with colleagues belonging to similar projects as SOCLOSE.
Concerning participants, the meeting is opened to all SO-CLOSE members. Moreover, the idea is to open the meeting to people coming outside the project who could be interested in the topics addressed in the panels (students, researchers, NGOs, refugees, policy makers, etc.)

This session will highlight the current state of play of biofoundries and how they are going to revolutionise manufacturing processes, examining some of the challenges related to injecting industry constraints into early phase of bioprocess development. Moreover, leading researchers from the IBISBA network will introduce the IBISBA concept, looking at its biofoundry activities and how these fit into the wider framework of end-to-end bioprocess development which is being promoted by IBISBA. Last but not least, the workshop will host speeches by Prof. Paul Freemont (Imperatial College London, UK), Head of Structural and Synthetic Biology Department of Infectious Desease, member of the Global Biofoundries Alliance, and by Sunil Chandran (Amyris, USA), Head of R&D involved in the development of commercial biofoundries.
