The European projects SO-CLOSE and TRACTION present their digital and artistic tools to combat social exclusion
Description:
The research and innovation projects SO-CLOSE (coordinated by the UAB) and TRACTION (led by the Catalan company Vicomtech and with the participation of the UAB) will present their main results on Wednesday, November 30 at 10:00 a.m. headquarters of the European Commission in Barcelona.
Both initiatives have been funded through the European Union's Horizon 2020 program and share the purpose of contributing to consolidating museums and cultural institutions as spaces for sustainable digital cultural co-creation.
The event is open to the public and is especially aimed at people linked to cultural and artistic organizations and institutions or from the social sphere and public administrations.
About the projects
- SO-CLOSE, focused on the refugee experience, has developed open access digital tools that can be used for educational or documentation purposes. Versions of the tools made with genuine migratory information and experiences will be presented at the event, co-created by professionals from the academic and digital world, and refugees and migrants who determined their own needs, expectations and possibilities when choosing the tools to develop. Check out the SO-CLOSE Memory Center Platform: https://bit.ly/socloseMCP
- TRACTION, for its part, explored the use of technology as a critical element in the co-creation of operas between professionals and diverse communities. Two main technological tools have been developed: The Co-Creation Space, a tool to foster participation, interaction and discussion during the co-creation process, and the Co-Creation Stage, a tool to enable real-time opera performances from different locations and scenarios.

Disruptive innovation workshop "UAB Reptes 2023"
Description:
The world is full of social and environmental challenges and the UAB aims to be part of the solution. After the success of previous editions, the University organises the "UAB Reptes 2023" with the objective of getting students and alumni involved in reaching the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Thus, this ideas generation workshop promotes working in multidisciplinary teams to come up with projects capable of meeting the needs of these social and environmental challenges.
The event will take place on 28 February from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the study hall of the RR Building, located at the Plaça Cívica (above the cafeteria). It is conceived as a disruptive innovation workshop in which participants will be grouped into teams with members of the different teaching centres to tap into their creativity and find a solution to the challenges presented. It will also include the guidance of David Hernández Salazar, design and strategic innovation technician from the UAB Research Park's Entrepreneurship Unit.

Bioblitz UAB: to find plants and animals at the campus
Description:
All those interested can sign up until 21 March to participate in the UAB's second edition of Bioblitz, in continuation of the citizen science initiative organised to evaluate the biodiversity found on campus held last year.
The new edition will allow to gather more information on the environments and organisms found on the university campus. This unique opportunity allows participants to learn methodologies used in the study of nature which are often difficult to discover up close. Participants will be able to collaborate in creating a sample of different groups of plants and animals under the guidance of expert field biologists, who will show them how to study different types of living beings.
The project is funded by Fundació Autònoma Solidària (FAS) in collaboration with the UAB's Environmental Office.
