UAB researchers propose designing a vaccine based on complexes imitating the viral particles of SARS-CoV-2. The initiative forms part of the UAB's crowdfunding programme against COVID-19, which also includes a project by the FAS to offer summer camps for children in need and an action by the UAB Open Labs to manufacture protective material for healthcare personnel.
The UAB has offered the labs of the INC, IBB, faculties, and scientific and technical services to the Generalitat de Catalunya's Department of Health to work on the detection of COVID-19. It also offered hospitals detection equipment and protection gear, and two campus research centres, IRTA-CReSA and ICN2, are working on its diagnosis and treatment.
Francesc Gòdia, director of the Cellular Engineering and Bioprocesses Group at the UAB, is spearheading a university study to find a Covid-19 vaccine. Donations can be made through this fundraising campaign.
The University has created two online spaces, "La UAB respon" and "Col·laboració amb els mitjans", with videos and opinion articles by lecturers and researchers who talk about issues related to SARS-CoV-2 and COVID-19, their psychological and social effects and tools to help counter them.
