Rhythm and experience: Research at the borders of the phenomenal

"Rhythm and experience: Research at the borders of the phenomenal" entitles a chapter by Thérèse Gärff's doctoral research and they will present the overall structure and problem therein considered. 

Rhythm is conceptualized as the fundamental structure underlying embodied experience, by relating Deleuze's concept of rhythm to the phenomenology of the body. Rhythm is understood as threefold: 1) metric arrangement on the level of reflexivity, 2) being-immersed/flowing in rhythm on a passive level of experience and 3) and relation of meter and flow, either experienced reactively/unconsciously or aware of itself/ in epoché. The aim through the presentation is to receive constructive feedback from fellow researchers.

Thérèse Gärff is a doctoral candidate in philosophy at Charles University in Prague. Their research focuses on the rhythmicity of experience, and their research areas include embodied phenomenology, Gilles Deleuze, rhythmanalysis after Pascal Michon, and psychotherapeutic schools such as those of Henri Maldiney and Viktor Frankl. Recent publications are the monograph Bist du bei Sinnen oder philosophierst du noch - Die Logotherapie Viktor Frankls und der Wert der Sinnfrage (Traugott Bautz, 2024) or Deleuze, Phenomenology and the Rhythms of Experience (Polish Journal of Aesthetics, to be published approx. 2/2026).

«Ritmo y experiencia: Investigación en los límites de lo fenoménico» es el título de un capítulo de la investigación doctoral de Thérèse Gärff, en el que se presentará la estructura general y el problema que aborda.

El ritmo se conceptualiza como la estructura fundamental subyacente a la experiencia corporal, relacionando el concepto de ritmo de Deleuze con la fenomenología del cuerpo. Se entiende el ritmo en tres dimensiones: 1) la disposición métrica a nivel de la reflexividad, 2) la inmersión/fluidez en el ritmo a nivel pasivo de la experiencia y 3) la relación entre métrica y fluidez, experimentada de forma reactiva/inconsciente o consciente/en la epoché. El objetivo de la presentación es recibir comentarios constructivos de otros investigadores.

Thérèse Gärff es candidate a doctore en filosofía en la Universidad Carolina de Praga. Su investigación se centra en la ritmicidad de la experiencia, y sus áreas de investigación incluyen la fenomenología encarnada, Gilles Deleuze, el ritmoanálisis después de Pascal Michon y escuelas psicoterapéuticas como las de Henri Maldiney y Viktor Frankl. Sus publicaciones recientes son la monografía Bist du bei Sinnen oder philosophierst du noch - Die Logotherapie Viktor Frankls und der Wert der Sinnfrage (Traugott Bautz, 2024) o Deleuze, Phenomenology and the Rhythms of Experience (Revista polaca de estética, que se publicará aproximadamente el 2/2026).
