HISTORY OF THE FACULTY

The first site of the Faculty of Medicine, in 1968-1969, was at the Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau where the entire Degree in Medicine was taught. In 1970-1971 first and second year classes were offered on the Bellaterra campus, in the classrooms of the Faculty of Science. In 1973-1974, the Dean?s Office and the Secretariat of the Faculty were permanently installed on the Bellaterra campus, in the Faculty building. In 1971-1972 the Vall d'Hebron Hospital began to receive third year students for the first time and in 1973-1974 the Hospital del Mar started to offer teaching to students from their fourth year.

In 1983-1984 the Germans Trias i Pujol Hospital in Badalona began to offer teaching for part of the third year students and in 1987-1988 it became a University Hospital within the Teaching Unit of the Catalan Health Service (ICS), offering the entire clinical curriculum.

In 2006-2007, the Faculty of Medicine coordinated the students of the official Master's programmes, specifically in the science branches, Erasmus Mundus Health and Community Welfare and its own Master's programme. It was also the joint centre for interuniversity Master's degrees in Integrated Care for Critically Ill Patients, along with the University of Barcelona, and Public Health, with the Pompeu Fabra University.

In 2008-2009 the third year of the Degree in Medicine was taught at the Hospital Parc Taulí in Sabadell, while waiting to sign the corresponding agreement with the Hospital Teaching Unit of the Corporació Sanitària Parc Taulí. On the 27 April 2010 the Board of Trustees of the UAB approved the agreement between the UAB and the Consorci Corporació Sanitària Parc Taulí in Sabadell as well as the creation of Corporació Sanitària Parc Taulí Teaching Unit.

In 2008-2009, the EHEA degree in Medicine was launched jointly with the Pompeu Fabra University, and taught at the facilities of the Hospital del Mar.

In 2009-2010, the Faculty of Medicine became the first faculty in Spain to offer joint teaching to future members of the nursing and medical professions and in 2010-2011 our courses will be extended to offer a first year of 80 new students the new bachelor's degree in Physiotherapy.

In 2009-2010 a new interuniversity teaching building was opened in the Hospital del Mar, shared by three institutions: the Municipal Medical Research Institute (IMIM), the Pompeu Fabra University and the our Faculty's Teaching Unit at the Hospital del Mar.
