Master description

The master's degree in European Integration comprises 60 ECTS to be taken in two terms (30+30) over one academic year. Of these 60 ECTS, 15 correspond to a compulsory module, 35 to optional modules and 10 to the Master Thesis.

The Master's degree has 4 specialisations (Legal Integration, External Action and Multilevel Governance), which condition the itinerary to be taken by their respective students. The Legal Integration specialisation focuses on the EU's legal regime and its most important applications. External Action focuses on the EU's role in the international arena, analysing the instruments and principles governing its actions and the main dimensions of these. Multilevel Governance analyses how power in the EU is exerted through a set of relationships between the different political actors.

During the first semester all students take a common module (Basic Knowledge of the European Union) of 15 ECTS. Students also take the compulsory module within their chosen specialisation, also for 15 ECTS credits (Fundamental Principles of the European Union Legal Regime, Fundamental Principles of European Union External Action, Economics of European and International Integration; European Governance: theories and political process).

In the second semester, students take a compulsory module of 10 ECTS corresponding to their specialisation (Common Legal Space; Dimensions of European Union Foreign Action; European Economic Policies and Instruments of Coordination; Multi-Level Government in the European Union). They will also write their Master Thesis, which counts for 10 ECTS. Finally, they will take 10 ECTS by choosing from the offer of second-semester modules belonging to specialisations other than their own, or the work placement module.
