Master's Degree in Strategy, Communication and Graphic Design


The master’s degree in Graphic Communication is a training programme that integrates the areas of creativity, graphic design, preparation of digital final artwork and final production (communication, construction and production) of graphic artwork in print as well as multimedia.

The master’s degree is conceived as a natural continuation for communication graduates or similar who wish to strengthen their profile in art direction, design and the production of visual communication, that is, to strengthen their profiles as visual communicators.

It aims to provide in-depth knowledge of the process of creating, producing and preparing for final production of any graphic product. Products generated from visual media, from graphic design, whether of an advertising, editorial, journalistic or media nature.

The work of the visual communicator does not finish at the stage of creation. Their contributions are still needed throughout the entire work process. Obtaining the visual product under the established conditions needs to be ensured. To allow this to happen requires a knowledge of how to manage the whole process. For good creative work to succeed, it is essential to efficiently convey the final piece and at a reasonable price.

Specific content as regards the design and production aspects in this programme is usually not covered in an adequately professionally manner in communication or design schools and faculties; this leaves communicators with no option but to learn such aspects little by little, by dint of experience.

This master’s degree in Graphic Communication aims to train students in the fundamental concepts of the procedures, materials, equipment and budgets involved in the work process of visual communication.


- The basic objective is to train students in the process of creating, editing and producing printed and multimedia materials and give them professional skills in the world of graphics.
- This basic objective should improve communication processes among the members of marketing departments, creative departments and communication departments with the companies in the graphics and multimedia sector.

- The intention of this Master's degree is to relate the interests of the university with the companies offering visual communication services.
- This should result in improvements and innovation both in a professional context (improvement in production processes) and academic context (improvement in research and teaching).

Access requirements

The course is intended, on the one hand, for communications professionals working in graphic design, or wishing to do so. On the other hand, it is aimed at recent graduates who wish to extend their training especially in areas of communication (advertising and public relations, audiovisual communication and journalism), graphic design, multimedia, publishing, fine arts, etc., and in the generation of content in digital media.

Admission to the programme requires completion of an application form and discussion with the academic team before pre-registration. All documents requested in the terms and conditions set out by the UAB Graduate School must be submitted at pre-registration.

Career opportunities

This course aims to provide students with a professional and practical vision of the processes for obtaining communication products, as well as carrying out a review of the intervening disciplines. Specific project work will focus on problem solving, providing greater ability of access to or work mobility within audiovisual communication.
