Master's Degree in Neuropsychology and Behavioural Neurology

Introduction

The purpose is to train professionals in assessment and therapeutic orientation in the alteration of higher mental activities (language, memory, perception, calculation, adaptive behaviour, intelligence, etc.) due to focal or diffused brain damage.

Training is linked to evidence-based medical concepts in order to develop an evidence-based neuropsychology practice. We seek to offer training that combines theory and practice from a clinical perspective.

This Master is the result of the initial pilot experience of the Associate's degree in Neuropsychology from the Pharmacy and Psychiatry Department (1987/88 academic year).

Academic training and practice are aided by the online collaboration with the Autonomous Interactive Teaching Office (OAID) of the UAB.

Objectives

Acquire basic knowledge, competences and skills related to cognitive, emotional and behavioural functions consecutive with brain damage alterations.
Behavioural neurology broadly includes neuroscientific and clinical aspects of cognition, behaviour and emotions. For the purpose of teaching it can be divided into five core areas:

- Neurobiological foundations of behaviour

- Neurobehavioural and aphasic syndromes
- Neurobehavioural exploration i de and mental state
- Neuropsychological evaluation
- Neuropsychopharmacology and patient management

The core areas of behavioural neurology require a basic knowledge of neuroanatomical , neurochemical, neurophysiological and neurobiological substrates of development, of complex behaviours and of the clinical traits, physiopathological correlations, therapeutic diagnosis and management of neurobehavioural syndromes. In conjunction with the core areas, there are also six areas of clinical research:

- Neurobehavioural disorders in childhoodor at the onset ofchildhood
- Neurology of geriatric behaviour
- Neuropsychiatry
- Neuroimaging and neurophysiology
