Introduction

The master's degree focuses on two objectives: the design of fonts and page design based on the use of typography.

First part: Font Design. Module 1 and 2 are dedicated to the design of fonts, aim to delve deeper into the history of letters and their forms through practical subjects such as Calligraphy, Lettering, Digital Constructions and Alphabetical Architecture, together with theoretical sessions in History of Typography and sessions in Palaeotypography, Font Formats and Pyton Programming.

Second part: Page Design. Module 3 and 4 focus on the study of the use of typography as a graphic element in the design of pages and the structuring of publications through practical subjects such as Press Design, Magazine Layout and Art Management, together with theoretical sessions in History of Pages and sessions in Infography, Typographic Cannon and Orthotypography.


Final part: Project. Knowledge acquired in both modules will allow the student to develop a final project under the guidance of professors in two parts: a typographical design and a publication design.

Objectives

The aim is to provide education and research in the field of typography, interpreted here in its broadest sense. The programme is divided into two summative modules: Form of the Letter (module 1) and Internal Compositional Structures of the Page and Publication (module 2).

Access requirements

To be admitted to the programme you must hold a university degree.

Candidates from the following fields may apply: Graduates in Design or Fine Arts, and professionals working in the design, publishing, press, advertising and image sector who are interested in acquiring new knowledge in this subject.

Given that the objective of the programme is to gain specific skills in the field, candidates must have knowledge of graphic design and typography, as well as experience with layout software (Quark-Xpress, Indesign).

You do not need previous experience in the design of fonts or in font-editing software.
