Graduate Diploma in Ecotourism and Nature-Guide Training

Introduction

This postgraduate course brings together existing specialization courses on the creation and management of products and companies relating to ecotourism/the nature-guide profession. The programme has been designed with the aim of training professionals wishing to create products and/or ecotourism companies, or who seek to engage in nature-guide training. The programme is also aimed at those who already work in this field but wish to improve their training and to ensure better career prospects. These are two ambits offering have a high growth potential in both the national and international context.

The programme responds to an increasingly evident need within the tourism market. The growing demand for ecotourism products implies, in effect, the need for companies and professionals both in the public and private sectors sufficiently trained to meet the challenge of providing products and services of a high quality with the requisite guarantees of success.

In this respect, it aims to fill the gap currently existing within education and training in this sector, through the most exhaustive academic rigor guaranteed by the experience of a centre with recognised proficiency and prestige in tourism training school such as that offered by the School of Tourism and Hotel Management (EUTDH) at the Universitat Aut˛noma de Barcelona. In the field of nature-guide training and ecotourism entrepreneurship, this is a pioneering training programme both in Spain and within the rest of Europe.

The programme offers the added value of the HeriQ Certification Course for Interpretive Guides, a European diploma. This diploma is obtained through successful completion of the module on natural-heritage interpretation, since this module corresponds in terms of content with the HeriQ training course. In this respect, the module lecturer is accredited by the European HeriQ programme (Quality in Heritage Interpretation) through responsibility for conducting the course and awarding the corresponding diploma in Spain.
The aim of this training is to equip professionals with the skills and competence to act as nature guides and in the management of ecotourism companies, offering high-quality and financially profitable products and services with guarantees of success.

These skills and competences are acquired through the presence of professionals of the highest level and of extensive experience to provide students with useful and applicable tools for professional practice. In addition, there is the possibility of internships in companies and institutions within the sector; furthermore, the programme promotes interaction among participants and between participants and lecturers (debates, exchange of experiences, etc.).
