The UAB MassFactory spin-off will present a new application which shows the best route to get to campus from any of the public transport means available.

From 24 to 28 October, the UAB will be celebrating the Sustainable and Safe Mobility Week, with the objective of raising awareness among the university community of the advantages of sustainable mobility (walking, bicycling, using public transport and carpooling). A series of activities will be organised throughout the week. Some of the activities will serve to compensate hours for members of the administration and services sector.

During the week the "UAB Mobility Plan" exhibition will be on display. The plan is the tool the university uses to improve many of the aspects of the campus and make mobility easier for people. The exhibit will be on display at the Rectorat building, the Plaça Cívica, and the faculties of Medicine and of Veterinary Medicine. Visitors to the exhibit will enter to win a folding bicycle.

There will be workshops on efficient driving, motorcycle safety, a photography contest, a mobility circuit and the presentation of the new application developed by the UAB spin-off MassFactory, which shows the best route to get to campus from any of the public transport means available.

Bicycle Day

The activities held on Thursday 26 October, coinciding with Bicycle Day, will take place from 10 a.m. to 14 p.m. at the Plaça Cívica and are open to the entire university community. During these four hours, electric vehicles will be on display and available for those interested in trying them out.

The BiciUAB service will be at the Plaça Cívica that day, offering free bike repair and revisions (only new parts will be charged), as well as basic recommendations to keep the bicycles in good conditions.

At the same time, at the Plaça del Coneixement there will be a simulation of an overturned car to help raise awareness on the importance of ergonomics when driving, as well as safety in order to prevent any such accidents.

A Healthy and Sustainable Campus

The Sustainable and Safe Mobility Week forms part of the UAB Healthy and Sustainable Campus (SiS Campus) project. The project is aimed at all those who study and work at the university. It includes 70 highly transversal actions aimed at improving the health of the university community by fostering surroundings and habits leading to a healthy lifestyle, and by making the university a more sustainable and environment-friendly place. It is inspired in the UAB's principles and values, in the recommendations by the World Health Organization (WHO) and in the proposal of action of the Catalan Network of Healthy Universities (US.CAT).

The objectives of the project are to improve the health of the university community and promote surroundings and habits which can foster a healthy lifestyle. Lowering the amount of greenhouse gas emissions generated by the UAB and making the university more environment-friendly and respectful with the environment are also a main objective of the SiS Campus.
