Vila Universitària is getting ready to open its doors to its residents for the year 2015-2016. Over the whole of the past academic year it has had 1,758 residents, of whom 1,230 were from Spain. Of these, 57.40% of the Vila Universitària residents came from outside Catalonia, with most coming from the Balearic Islands, the Basque Country, Valencia and Galicia respectively.

In the case of student residents from Catalonia, most came from Tarragona (13.5%), followed by Girona (12.1%), then Lleida (8.7%) and then Barcelona (8.3%).

Regarding international students, a total of 528 were housed in the Vila Universitària during the past academic year: 212 from Europe, 124 from the Americas, 186 from Asia and 5 from Africa.

Types of apartment
Regarding types of apartment, the occupation figures for the year are as follows. 2-person apartments (type A) were the most popular, with 26.82% of the total occupation; next come the 5-person apartments (type C, single bedroom) with 20.03%, 4-person apartments (type B), 5-person apartments with double bedrooms (type C double bedroom), 1-person apartments, with 9.75%, and 2-person apartments (type D), with 9.23%.

Vila Universitària has 812 apartments of different sizes. This year it offered a new type: a triple apartment with an individual bedroom. This was in response to the residents' survey carried out at the beginning of this year, which revealed a perceived shortage of individual rooms in shared apartments.

Vila Universitària began in 1992, when it was the only on-campus student residence in Spain. Its offer of accommodation broke away from the traditional university residence halls, passing responsibilities on to its student residents and favouring their independence, while at the same time providing a secure environment geared to academic activity.

In addition to this, from the very beginning Vila Universitària has been committed to fostering neighbourliness and community spirit, through its Residents Club and the leisure, sports and cultural activities it organises, offering a global experience to its residents.
