The four departments belonging to the Faculty of Biosciences jointly organised the very first edition of the UABio Bioresearch Workshops, which will be held from 2 to 5 June. The departments of Animal Biology, Plant Biology and Ecology; Cell Biology, Physiology and Immunology; Biochemistry and Molecular Biology; and Genetics and Microbiology have come together to visualise the excellent research conducted at the UAB in this field.

The workshop, which will take place at the faculty's Sala de Graus, will include the participation of hundreds of researchers offering dozens of papers and poster sessions, and exhibit stands of collaborating companies.

The opening conference, which will take place on Tuesday 2 June as part of the Scientific Workshop of the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, will be given by Dr Eduard Batlle (conference hall of the Faculty of Biosciences at 12 noon). Dr Batlle, ICREA research professor at the Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB) in Barcelona, where he coordinates the centre's Oncology Programme and is group leader of the Colorectal Cancer Laboratory, has made significant scientific contributions in this field, such as the discovery of connections between intestinal stem cells and colon cancer and the mechanisms behind the development of metastasis in these types of tumours.

The closing session will take place during the workshops organised by the Department of Animal Biology, Plant Biology and Ecology on Friday 5 June (conference hall of the Faculty of Biosciences at 12:30 pm) and will include the presence of Pilar Dellunde, Vice Rector for Research; Lluís Tort, Vice Rector for Strategic Projects; and Josep Vendrell, Dean of the Faculty of Biosciences. The closing conference will by given by Dr Angel Raya, ICREA research professor at the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC) and scientific director of the Centre for Regenerative Medicine of Barcelona (CMRB). Dr Raya is expert in mechanisms determining cell and tissue regeneration in vertebrates and has made important contributions in the field of cell reprogramming and its biomedical applications.

The event includes the support of the following companies: Vitro, Sarstedt, Macrogen, Mettler Toledo Rainin, EMD Millipore, Isogen, Life Technologies, DDBioLab, GE Healthcare, CONDA Pronadisa, SG Servicios Hospitalarios, BioRad, Macs Miltenyi Biotec, Abacus, Olympus, Panlab Harvard Apparatus, ThermoFisher, Sistemas Genómicos, Labclinics, Suez Environnement, Ecogen, Danagen, A. Coloma, Foxen and Autocares Alejandro and PMC Grup.
