On 5 and 6 March, the UAB Inter Asia research group, the East Asian Study and Research centre (CERAO) and the UAB Department of Translation, Interpreting and East Asian Studies, in collaboration with the CIDOB Foundation, have organised this international seminar on East Asia and its relations to Spain. The idea of the symposium, which will take place at the CIDOB headquarters, was born thanks to the R&D project by MINECO conducted by the UAB Inter Asia research group.

East Asia is increasingly present in several areas of Spain and Latin American countries and, at the same time, it receives more and more influences from the outside. That is why this seminar will cover the different impacts, influences and adaptations in cultural productions and society which have occurred in Spain and in which East Asia has played an important role: artistic works of Ai Weiwei, consumption of manga, video game industry, tourism from China, etc.

Thus, sectors such as translation, reception and creation of literature, cinema, television, anime, photographs, art, video games, academic publications, martial arts go hand in hand with the identity complexity of teaching languages, as well as with the development of new population flows which interact with the rest of society. The seminar also will serve to reflect upon the political implications of these social and cultural phenomena.
