Fundación BBVA and the Valencian Institute for Economic Research (IVIE) recently presented the 2015 ISSUE Rankings (Indicadores Sintéticos del Sistema Universitario Español), the third edition of the results achieved by universities in academic, research, innovation and technological development activities. The ranking offers a classification of institutions according to sectors and looks at each university's activities as a whole.

In the ISSUE-P ranking of research, which classifies universities according to the results obtained in the assessment of their research activity, the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona occupies first place, with a score of 1.9. It is followed by the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (1.7), the Pompeu Fabra University (1.6), the University of Barcelona (1.5) and the Autonomous University of Madrid (1.5).

The document also compares the results with the rankings of Shanghai, QS and Times Higher Education (THE), and points out that the UAB systematically appears among the top positions in all three rankings, together with the University of Barcelona, the Pompeu Fabra University and the Autonomous University of Madrid.

The main novelty in this third edition is the incorporation into the ranking of eleven private universities. In this edition, a total of 59 public and private universities were analysed, with a 95% coverage of the Spanish University System in terms of number of undergraduate students.
