With Tourism in English, the UAB aims to attract students interested in developing their professional career in organisations belonging to international markets. The main objective is not only for students to learn English; they will also acquire many communicative skills, specific work techniques and humanistic aspects in English, which will contribute to their total integration in a completely globalised sector as is tourism.

This new academic programme forms part of a process which began in 2010/11 with the bachelor's degree in Business Management and Administration. The Faculty of Economics and Business Studies, located at the Bellaterra Campus, is actually the first and only centre in Catalonia to offer its bachelor's degrees in English: Business Management and Administration and Economics. The syllabuses are exactly the same as those included in the bachelor's degrees offered in Catalan or Spanish.

In the 2012/13 academic year, the bachelor's degree in Primary Education began to function; it is also the only degree of this type to be offered fully in English in Catalonia. The objective is to train primary education teachers to master the English language in a range of subjects so as to be able to offer all types of classes in English.
The bachelor's degree in English Studies is also an academic programme in which almost all lectures are in English.

Apart from these programmes, almost all degrees at the UAB contain some subjects, seminars, courses, etc. in English.

Master's degrees and PhD programmes

The UAB therefore adds to its strategic studies in English to fulfil the demands of not only the 5,000 international students visiting the UAB each year, but also local students interested in a high quality study programme (bachelor's degree, master's degree, postgraduate and PhD programmes) which can also provide them with the tools to improve their skills and knowledge in English.

The UAB offers some thirty official master's degrees in English and almost a dozen UAB master's degrees. It additionally has several postgraduate diplomas in this language.

With regard to PhD programmes, all UAB PhD students can submit their theses in English. As a language commonly used in scientific communications across all sectors, English can be easily used by all PhD students for their studies.
