From 24 to 28 October, the UAB will be celebrating the Sustainable and Safe Mobility Week, with the objective of raising awareness among the university community of the advantages of sustainable mobility (walking, bicycling, using public transport and carpooling). A series of activities will be organised throughout the week, with some of the main ones being held on Thursday 27 October, coinciding with "Bicycle Day".

During the week the exhibit "UAB Mobility Plan" will be on display. The plan is the tool the university uses to improve many of the aspects on campus which make mobility easier for people. The exhibit will be on display at the Rectorat building, the Plaça Cívica, and the faculties of Medicine and of Veterinary Medicine. Visitors to the exhibit will enter to win a folding bicycle. Workshops on motorcycle safety, a photography contest and a pilot programme with the application VAOpoint will be offered as well.

The activities held on Thursday 27 October, coinciding with Bicycle Day, will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Plaça Cívica and are open to the entire university community.

During these four hours, electric vehicles will be on display and available for those interested in trying them out. At the Plaça Cívica people will also be able to have their bike checked for free and learn to make small repairs. Bikes will be checked so that their owners know what state they are in and they will also receive basic recommendations to keep them in good conditions. Experts will be available to offer any advice needed and bike owners will only have to pay for any new pieces they may need.

During the Sustainable and Safe Mobility Week there will be presentations of applications for mobile devices related to Smart Mobility, a strategic line of great importance in the planning and management of mobility at the UAB. The following applications will be presented:

VAOpoint Platform
The UAB spin-off Aslogic will begin a pilot programme of the VAOpoint platform, a mobile phone application which will allow people to carpool to the UAB. The pilot programme, which will last some three weeks, will allow users to save money and be more sustainable with the environment by reducing the number of cars used, and at the same time it will allow meeting new people. Among the participants of the pilot programme there will be a raffle for a free Samsung Galaxy S7.

App&Town
Application developed by MassFactory, a UAB spin-off, which shows the best route to get to campus from any of the public transport means available. It is as easy as downloading it to a smartphone and trying out a number of applications it offers. It gives users the opportunity to see what public transport options they have, routes, timetables, and stops in real time, public transport network guidance, etc.

BusosUAB
This application, adapted for web platforms, Android and iOS, and developed by the UAB and Aslogic, uses positioning data of the UAB buses to aid service management in two ways: for administration purposes, it can cover service needs at any given time (regulate to meet demands), and users can know in real time when a bus will pass; as well as view all lines, routes and nearest bus stops, etc.
