Scientists to debate on the unsolved problems on noise

From 13 to 17 July, the UAB Casa Convalescència (Carrer Sant Antoni Maria Claret, 171, Barcelona) will play host to the "7th International Conference on Unsolved Problems on Noise (UPoN 2015)", which will focus on noise, fluctuations and variability in the fields of physics, biology, engineering and the economy. The conference is organised by the UAB Department of Electronic Engineering.

Noise is becoming increasingly useful in reaching a deep understanding of systems (whether physical, biological, financial, etc.). The UPoN conference has been organised since 1996 as a discussion forum for researchers from different sectors working with the use of noise, fluctuations and variability, with the aim of tackling problems which cannot be easily solved.

The inauguration of the event will take place on 13 July at 9 am. UAB Rector Ferran Sancho and Emilio Lora-Tamayo, President of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), will be speaking at the inauguration.

A large diversity of issues will be discussed at the conference and have been divided into nine blocks: theoretical challenges in noise and fluctuations, quantum noise and coherence, fluctuations in materials and devices, fluctuations in biological systems, noise in circuits and in complex non-lineal systems, fluctuations in econophysics and financial markets, noise applications, experimental frontiers of noise and fluctuations, and another block dedicated to issues such as metereological or earthquake predictions. In order to favour interaction among people of different disciplines, no parallel sessions will be held during the conference.
