The UAB celebrates the day of Sant Jordi

Diada de Sant Jordi UAB 2018
The Plaça Cívica has been the nerve center of the activities during the day of Sant Jordi at the UAB, on Monday 23rd April. The university community has been able to buy books and roses in the stalls of the Sant Jordi Fair, as well as enjoy different musical performances and attend dance and swing workshops. They have also been invited to a meal against food waste.

After two years in which the Sant Jordi day was celebrated on weekends, the UAB has returned to live fully this day with a lot of activities. The start of the celebration of the day was at 12h and closed at 16h, although some activities such as Korean music karaoke, organized by the collective Korean Club, lasted until 18h.

During the day, members of the university community were able to buy books and roses at the stands of the different groups and services at the #SantJordiUAB Fair. Although some as Ganàpies or CampusRom in the end could not attend, a total of 21 groups participated. In addition to the fair, they were also able to enjoy the performances of the Red Carpet Room (author's song) or the UAB Dance Classroom in the scenic space of the Plaça Cívica. They were also able to attend various workshops of contemporary dance, in exhibitions and in an open Swing class.

Those who instead of dancing preferred to play sports had the possibility of doing it to an open-air badminton court in front of the Resource Center for Student Societies. And if they preferred closed spaces, at 1:00 pm they screened in the Cinema Room What do you think the French, Italians, Germans and Portuguese are?, four videos produced by the Language Service on the stereotypes associated with the speakers of these languages and their territories.

At noon, in the Civic Plaza, the traditional lunch was held against food waste, which serves to raise awareness about the use of food. In this meal some food was offered in exchange for bringing food to be distributed at the Food Bank. The menu consisted of a first course of vegetable soup and a dessert of fruit skewers with chocolate. In total about 100 rations were distributed.

Finally, the winners of the Exchange Photo Contest and the Erotic Story Contest were announced, and some of the stories were read. Until April 25, students who took photographs during the day that captured the ways of living Sant Jordi at the UAB can participate in the Instagram Contest. Just hang the photos to Instagram and tag @comunitatUAB, and the five most popular images will win a set of lenses that includes a fisheye filter. Until Friday, April 27, you can also participate in the Stop and Read contest, organized by the UAB Libraries Service, and win a batch of books.
