Ramon Llull debated at the 7th Ibero-American Congress on Medieval Philosophy

This year marks the 700th anniversary of the death of Ramon Llull. His figure will be the main focus of the 7th Ibero-American Congress on Medieval Philosophy, entitled De Relatione, which will take place on 14 and 15 November at the UAB Faculty of Philosophy and Arts, and on 16 November in Barcelona.

From 14 to 16 November the 7th Ibero-American Congress on Medieval Philosophy, De Relatione, will take place. It is organised by the Department of Philosophy, the Department of Antiquity and Middle Ages Studies and the Institute for Middle Ages Studies of the UAB. The Faculty of Philosophy and Arts will host the first two sessions, and the third day will be celebrated at the Faculty of Theology of Catalonia in Barcelona.

The congress takes place every four years and unites close to 100 specialists in medieval philosophy in Spain and Latin America. This year will be focused on the figure of Ramon Llull in commemoration of the seventh centenary of his death. The inauguration will take place on 14 November at 9:30 a.m. And will include the participation of Armand Sánchez, Vice Rector for Research and Transference; Joan Carbonell, Dean of the Faculty; Daniel Gamper, Director of the Department of Philosophy; and Jaume Mensa, co-organiser of the conference.

There will different plenary session on issues such as Arabic and Islamic philosophy, the relations of power in medieval societies and faith and reason in the works of Llull. This last theme will be offered by Alexander Fidora, professor of the Department of Antiquity and Middle Ages Studies at the UAB. During the conference there will also be an area for the presentation of books, journals and projects. Throughout the different sessions several communications will also be presented on areas of study such as anthropology, natural philosophy, aesthetics, logis, metaphysics and politics, in addition to many aspects related to the figure and works of Ramon Llull.
