The service will be available on Wednesdays from 9 am to 11:30 am at the Plaça Cívica.

The UAB Bicycle Maintenance and Repair Service (Servei de Manteniment i Reparació de Bicis) offers members the possibility of getting their bicycle repaired immediately by technical specialists. They will also offer tips on how users can repair their own bikes and solve any doubts or questions on mechanics and ergonomics, essential when wanting to use a bicycle as comfortably and safely as possible. Users will also be able to buy any needed replacement parts.

A stand will be set up at the Plaça Cívica every Wednesday from 9 am to 11:30 am. There is no need to make a reservation or sign up to be attended. All services are free and users must only pay for any new parts they may need.

The service began at the end of 2014, coinciding with the UAB Sustainable and Safe Mobility Week, and forms part of the BiciUAB Plan, which aims to foster the use of this vehicle among the university community.

The BiciUAB Plan aims to double the number of users and the number of kilometres of bike lanes (on campus and connecting to the surrounding towns). The measures go from creating or updating bike lanes to offering services such as bike repairs, rentals, enclosed bike stations and showers.

In October 2014, the UAB presented its BiciUAB plan, an integrated project contemplating all actions needed to foster the use of bicycles as a common means of transport around the Bellaterra Campus, a community of approximately 50,000 people who move around the campus some 220,000 time a day.

An integrated bicycle plan: BiciUAB
Promoting the use of bicycles is one of the proposals included in the 2008-2014 UAB Mobility Plan, which aims to achieve a more efficient, sustainable, safe and integrated mobility model. The plan also stresses the need to encourage collective transport, travelling by bicycle or on foot, and a more rational use of private vehicles.

The BiciUAB plan includes all the proposals made to increase the use of bicycles, a silent vehicle which does not contribute to the depletion of fossil fuels, and which is the fastest means of transport for distances of up to 5 kilometres, according to studies conducted. Currently only 1.1% of the community uses the bicycle as a means of transport around campus.
