Volunteers from the bachelor's degree in Physiotherapy offer recovery sessions for all participants after they cross the finish line.

The Cursa de la UAB in support of the Marató de TV3, organised by the UAB and with the collaboration with the City Council of Cerdanyola del Vallès and the Catalan Network of Healthy Universities (Us.cat), will take place on Sunday 14 December.

The UAB, the first university in Catalonia to organise such a large race, this year aims to surpass the number of participants who signed up last year. That is why this year the UAB invites all university students from Catalonia to participate.

CARDIAC TEST

Since this year's marathon is dedicated to heart diseases, people registered to participate in the race have the possibility of taking a cardiac test and seeing how their heart reacts to their physical efforts. Participants will discover their level of preparation and internal body status needed for this task.

The test, which is used by athletes such as Emma Roca, Kilian Jornet and Sílvia Tremoledad, will be offered 5 minutes before the race next to where the race numbers are handed out. The test will be conducted by Health&SportLab -a spin-off from the UAB and UPC directed by UAB lecturer Lluís Capdevila. They have created a system which monitors the physical and mental preparation state and supervises the heart's adaptation to the physical efforts made, as well as it recovery.

ENTITIES FAIR
Coinciding with the Cursa de la UAB, there will once again be an Entities Fair. The associations present this year work with cardiovascular diseases, and all money raised by the Marató de TV3 will go to treating these diseases. The objective is to disseminate and give information on these diseases to the general public. Some of the associations which will be present at the Entities Fair are: Cardiopaties Congenites, Asociación Española de Glucogenosis, MPS España, Associació Catalana d'Ataxies, ASSEM Catalunya and Associació Síndrome de DENT.

NIKE T-SHIRT
Nike has reached an agreement with the UAB and will distribute the race shirts for free. The sports shirt is made of a special fabric made especially for runners. Upon completing the race, all participants will be offered soup, courtesy of the Hotel Campus, and isotonic drinks. Participants will also be able to benefit from a recovery session with UAB physiotherapy students.

SYNCHROTRON, CASTLE GARDENS AND GREEN PATHS
There will be a 9 km race which will begin at 11 am at the Vila Universitària, and a 5 km walk, which will begin at the same place at 11:20 am. There will also be a race for people with reduced mobility. The itinerary for the 9 km race will head towards the bridge crossing over the motorway, circle around the Alba Synchrotron and go on to the castle gardens. Then they will continue on to the Ronda de la Font del Carme and pass the UAB Columns, go up the Eix Central, cross a short part of the Via Verda and arrive once again at the Vila Universitària. The 5 km walk is very similar to the 9km race, but participants will not cross the bridge or reach the castle.

UAB FESTA MAJOR PHOTO CONTEST

During the UAB Festa Major, celebrated on 6 November, a photo contest was held and participants were asked to pose in front of a photo call and offer an image for the Cursa de la UAB. The 10 most original photos were awarded a free race shirt. The winning photos can be viewed here.

RESULTS OF LAST YEAR'S RACE
This year, the UAB once again is devoted to organising this sportive and solidarity celebration, after the success of last year's edition, in which 2,144 people signed up for the race and 9,000 euros were raised. Last year funds went to treating neurodegenerative diseases. An additional 100 volunteers, coordinated by the Autònoma Solidarity Foundation (FAS) who took on several organisation tasks, also participated.
