The FMUAB started at 12 pm at the Plaça Cívica with the results for the contest titled Aquí busquem nom!” (“We’re looking for a name here”) which brought a new name to the UAB’s “R” Building. The winners are members of the student society Colla Castellera Ganàpies with their proposal “The Agora”. Then the official proclamation took place. This year, the entity in charge of giving the starting orders to the festival was Plataforma Tanquem els CIE, a campaign that fights to shut down detention centres for migrants. Under the motto “don’t close your eyes, close the CIE”, the proclamation recalled that the university also has the social responsibility of protest and of allowing society to call for human rights in our country.

This was followed by the Association Fair, where more than 25 student societies, workers, UAB services and other invited entities participated. Different UAB programmes and entities contributed with a series of informative and participative activities. The UAB Solidarity Foundation (FAS) presented the activity Enganxa’t al CROMA, which was a useful showcase for this volunteer programme; Community Involvement presented the Resource Centre and the Hotel d’Entitats, with activities related to student societies; the Observatory for Equality once again promoted a festival free from all sexism under the motto “Come and get rid of sexism” and the distribution of more than 5000 glass holders with the inscription "Sense Set de Sexisme. #FMlliuredassetjament"(No thirst for sexism).

An outstanding item was the performance of Ganàpies, who offered a special programme for their 20th anniversary, together with the Arreplegats de la Zona Universitària. The performances of the Colla de Bastoners, the Choir of the UAB and a country band who are all UAB workers were also excellent. Additionally, the SAF organised an open day.

The Plaça del Coneixement was filled with 55 bars run by students, raising money for end-of-course trips and other activities, in addition to live music by the winners of the programme Autònoma Actua, managed by Cultura en Viu. 13 bands performed a range of different music styles such as rock, rumba, fusion, alternative rock and ska.

The festival was also remarkable because of its sustainability and its consideration of environmental aspects. The campaign for reusable drinking glasses was once again a success, as was the campaign El vidre talla la festa. The FMUAB 2014 showed itself to be a participative, solidarity-based and enjoyable cultural festival that highlighted values which are increasingly present and consolidated in the UAB, and which make the FMUAB a festival for everyone.
