Tekhné to celebrate faculties' anniversary

On 19 December, the Tekhné Symphony Orchestra will give a concert in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities and the 25th anniversary of the Faculty of Translation and Interpreting. The Symphony No. 7 by Ludwig van Beethoven will be the feature piece of the recital. The concert will take place at 7 p.m. at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities. To attend, please sign uphere.

Following Beethoven's symphony, the orchestra will perform "In the Steppes of Central Asia", by Aleksandr Borodin, and "Scherzo" from Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 1 (Titan). The piece "Le hot coffee suite" by Adri Mena will also be premièred. The concert will be directed by Gerard Pastor.

Self-Managed Orchestra

The Tekhné Symphony Orchestra is formed by more than 60 musicians and aims to give continuity to the students of music schools who do not work professionally as musicians. It is also a platform for beginning music students and young directors who are given the change to direct the orchestra in a rotary manner.

The orchestra is managed by the musics themselves, who are members and elect their governing bodies. At the same time, the musicians organise as an assembly into different committees which take care of the daily management tasks. There are similar types of orchestras in Europe, but the Tekhné project is the only one of its kind in Spain and it has become a leading reference in amateur and semi-professional orchestras around the world.
