The Rector of the UAB, Margarita Arboix Arzo, the mayor of Cerdanyola del Vallès, Carles Escolà Sánchez, and the president of the ICD, Núria Ballade Cardona, have signed on June 11 an agreement at the UAB that will allow improving assistance in male chauvinistic violence situations. The aim of the collaboration is to give an integral and coordinated answer through the public network of attention to women suffering sexual harassment and other types of male chauvinistic violence that can happen inside the UAB’s university community. It is a pilot test beginning at the UAB that could extend to the rest of public universities.

Currently, the UAB offers assessment and accompanying during the activation process of the protocol against harassment through the Observatory for Equality, which offers the community a service of psychological refuge through the Psychogender Unit (Psychology and Speech Therapy Service by the Faculty of Psychology). The agreement will ease the accompanying and specialised assistance in male chauvinistic violence situations, beyond the university.

Specialised assistance at the centre for attention to women
A referral mechanism for cases detected at the UAB will be established with the CIARD (Centre for Information, Attention and Resources for Women) of the Cerdanyola del Vallès City Council, which offers specialised attention to address male chauvinistic violence. It is an organisation that counts with the collaboration and economic support of the Institut Català de les Dones. The CIARD counts with two consultants, a psychologist specialised in male chauvinistic violence, one jurist and an educational psychologist.

This service is included in the 102 SIAD network where the detection, the prevention and awareness campaigns of male chauvinistic violence are also carried out and is part of the Network for the attention and integral recovery of women in male chauvinistic violence situations, a group of specific services for the integral attention of this scourge which are established by Law 5/2008 on the right of women to eradicate male chauvinistic violence.
