Introduction

The master's Degree in Public Administration (UAB-UB-UPF) is orientated both to research and to professional practice. This programme originates from the UAB-specific master's degree of the same name launched in 1989-90, which became an inter-university degree in 1997. The 19th edition (2007-08) was the first to be classified as an official master's degree, after adapting the syllabus in line with the Bologna process. Over these years it has been supported by the Catalan School of Public Administration (EAPC), where classes have been taking place since the 16th edition.

The master's Degree in Public Administration offers advanced and specialised training for graduates in all areas of the Social Sciences or in other subjects if they have a specific interest in public administration. Students who successfully complete the Master's Degree in Public Administration in the established period of one academic year (60 ECTS) are guaranteed a place on the Government of Catalonia's pool of temporary employees. Students who take the research track will be able to continue on to a PhD programme.

Over these 26 editions (plus 5 more delivered part-time between the 9th. and the 13th.), over 400 students have taken the master's degree. Many of them have gone on to work in various public administrations and in all kinds of institutions and public services spanning different sectors and policy areas. The Catalan Association for Improving Public Administration (ACGP) was created by ex -students of the MGP. This association has held two extremely well-attended conferences on public administration.
Since the 2016/17 academic year, it also includes the participation of the Catalan Institute of Public Policy Evaluation (Ivàlua).
