Official Master's Degree in Chronicity and Dependence

Introduction

This Master's Degree in Chronicity and Dependency aims to train up healthcare professionals who are motivated and committed to our healthcare system. Trends in society (ageing, chronicity, etc.), in technology (new therapies, new drugs, etc.), and in the economy (greater pressure on public resources) present us with the challenge of equipping healthcare professionals with a new skill set that will enable them to take part in the planning, management and assessment of health programmes in Catalonia.

The Master's Degree in Chronicity and Dependency is an inter-university degree, coordinated by Pompeu Fabra University (UPF) and delivered jointly with the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB). The institutions that teach the programme are the Maresme Health Consortium and the School of Health Sciences. The Clinical Hospital of Barcelona and the TICSalut Foundation also collaborate on the programme.

Life expectancy in Catalonia is almost two years higher than the European average but, on the other hand, over 30% of the adult population claims to suffer from a chronic illness, or more than one. The Health Department predicts that chronic illnesses will become the most prevalent illnesses among the Catalan population in the next few years. They will continue to be present in our society in the near future, with an increasing impact on society, the economy and health.
