Bachelor's degree in Business and Information Technology

Presentation

Why the degree in Business and Information Technology?

The bachelor's degree in Business and Information Technology was created thanks to the demand of companies and other organisations. It is based on a combination of management, innovation, economics and information systems which differs it directly from traditional bachelor's degrees in economics and from engineering degrees. The profile of graduates is a highly valued one and there is a high insertion rate in organisations, who increasingly make use of the information and communication technologies in all aspects of their business. Proof of this is the broad offer of work placements for students in their 4th year.

Graduates, based on their innovation skills, act as liaisons between the technical community and the management department of organisations. On the one hand, they provide new ways of using technology in management to create greater value and, on the other hand, they can transmit to the technicians the needs when creating or adapting their technologies to the real needs of businesses.

The UAB is the first university in Spain to offer this type of academic degree, although in other countries there are several universities offering degrees with very similar characteristics and objectives, among which are the universities of Münster and Mannheim in Germany, the Manchester Business School in the UK, the Tilburg University in Holland, and the universities of Rhode Island and Utah in the USA.

The training is fully interdisciplinary, with a good balance
between theoretical and practical information offered by renowned and prestigious lecturers and professionals. Teaching methods combine classroom sessions with group assignments, problem-based learning and practical sessions with the latest computer software used by business organisations (from SAP to open source software).

Career options

In a world in which few business processes are conducted without digital support, graduates in Business and Information Technology are prepared to work in any department (purchasing, production, logistics, quality, administration, accounting, auditing, finance, human resources, sales, marketing, etc.) of any type of organisation in tasks related to the design, development and overall management of information systems. These tasks can be completed within the company or as part of an external consultancy.

The profile of graduates also prepares them to participate in (and even direct) aspects related to project management, process management, implementation and management of large management systems (ERP, CRM, SCM, etc.) and the management of information(business intelligence and business analytics).

Moreover, training in the internet sector provides graduates with abilities in designing new internet-based business models with the aim of generating innovation both within the company and in the creation of digital-based companies.

It also equips its graduates to work as economists or in a variety of posts in Public Administration (local, regional, national and European Union), as well as in other public bodies (hospitals, publicly-owned companies, etc.).
