B·Debate: "Industrial Biotechnology. Questions Today for Tomorrow's Needs"

Diffusion - CosmoCaixa Barcelona Isaac Newton, 26 · Barcelona)

Description:

Biotechnology is one of the pillars of the knowledge-based economy (KBBE), rightly hailed by the European Commission as a unique opportunity for Europe to increase the efficiency of its research. In an increasing and aging population, with the need of a more sustainable and rationale use of resources such as raw materials and energy, industrial biotechnology is called to develop enabling bioprocesses to make it possible. Industrial Biotechnology comprises two main sectors of application: the so-called white biotechnology, addressed to the production of chemicals and energy and red biotechnology, addressed to health.

This event, jointly organized by B·Debate, an initiative of Biocat and "la Caixa" Foundation, co-organized with Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), aims to generate a forum for an interdisciplinary and international debate bringing together experts from different backgrounds to discuss about the critical issues related to the development of industrial biotechnology for the production of chemicals and energy, the use of renewable resources, sutainability, production of biopharmaceuticals and vaccines, treatment of rare diseases or global response to global health threads, in a context of responsible innovation.
