Entrepreneurship and Spin-offs
-
The UAB Research Park spin-off Cognicor Technologies was awarded Europe's "Tech All Stars" prize, conferred by the European Commission during the Digital Agenda Assembly which took place in Brussels in June.
The "Tech All Stars" is a European competition to find the most innovative web start-up. This year the award went to Cognicor Technologies, a spin-off from the UAB Research Park which offers an automated complaint resolution service to resolve claims faster and cheaper.
The spin-off company was selected from more than 257 entries from all over the EU. The list was narrowed down to 12 finalists from Denmark, France, Ireland, Latvia, Spain and the UK. Among the innovative proposals presented were a phone application allowing users to activate and operate mobile devices by only using facial recognition software; a platform where users can obtain partial refunds on plane tickets and where airlines can gain additional seats to sell, and a system allowing people with visual disabilities or dyslexia to use any computer in order to view a website in a way that suits them.
To take part in the competition, the companies must be less than 3 years old and must have raised less than a million euros in external capital.
Tech All Stars was organised by the European Commission to provide visibility to the best European web start-ups to help them connect with investors, top executives, mentors, potential partners and venture capitalists.
