  • Climate change: effects on the Arctic

    Scientists led by the German Alfred Wegener Institute, among them two ICTA-UAB PhD students, have shown for the first time that global warming is causing alterations to the whole ecosystem of the Arctic, from surface to depth, more quickly than previously thought.

  • Classrooms 2.0

    Laptops and digital blackboards, part of what is known as 2.0 classrooms, can help to improve secondary school education. Researchers from the Group in Teaching Innovation and Multimedia at UAB reveal that these resources alone do not improve student performance. However, using the proper contents does help students acquire skills better.

  • SatCat: Catalonia's land turned into history

    UAB and CREAF recently presented SatCat, the most complete server of satellite images of Catalonia to exist. The project was created by GRUMETS, the Research Group of Methods and Applications in Remote Sensing and Geographical Information Systems. Images have been taken by the satellites Landsat during the past forty years.

  • Incidčncies 2.0

    The Research Group in Network Security and Distributed Applications at UAB has created a program called Incidčncies 2.0. This application for mobile phones has been designed for users to be able to check the state of the public transport rail systems within the metropolitan area of Barcelona and to learn about any sudden changes in services.

  • Electronic Sommeliers

    Researchers from the Group of Sensors and Biosensors at UAB have designed an electronic tongue which can identify different types of cava wines. Thanks to a combination of chemical measurement systems and advanced mathematical procedures, the system is designed to imitate the human sense of taste.

  • Scanning a Neanderthal

    At Cova Foradada in Valencia an almost fully complete Neanderthal skeleton was discovered. Anthropologist Eulŕlia Subirŕ from UAB will be directing the study, alongside other researchers from UAB and from IPHES. Before commencing the anthropological study and restoring the fossils, researchers carried out scans of the skeleton.

  • ALBA Synchrotron

    ALBA has generated the first synchrotron light beams and will open seven beamlines in this first phase of the project. Two more will soon be added. These will be dedicated to infrared microspectroscopy and ultra high resolution photoemission.
