The UAB Computer Vision Center, in collaboration with other Spanish universities, has developed an improved version of Wisper, an image fusion system, that increases the space resolution of data. This system has received an international prize in the most prestigious competition of its speciality.

An electronic device developed by researchers of the National Microelectronic Centre will further help to analyse the exact conditions of transplant organs during their transport to hospital. With Microtrans it is possible to monitor the temperature and impedance of organs in real time. The fast and exhaustive analysis of these data is very helpful when operating.

The UAB Organic Waste Compost Group has carried out a study in order to reduce bad smells and contamination of the atmosphere by industrial composting plants. Researchers have reduced to a minimum ammonia emissions, one of the main gases produced in the process of composting and the one responsible for bad smells.

A team of geographers and biologists of the UAB have developed the first Digital Climatic Atlas of the Iberian Peninsula. The atlas, which is free to consult on the Internet, contains a large amount of data and provides extremely detailed and precise maps, making it a useful tool for the study of climate change.

The Animal Health Research Centre (CReSA) is leader in the study of diseases affecting animals such as swine fever, mad-cow disease and bird flu. The UAB and the Catalan Institute for Food and Agricultural Research and Technology have signed an agreement making CReSA the only centre in Catalonia with the necessary characteristics to carry out research in these kinds of infectious diseases.

If we are to have manned, long-term space missions, we must be able to maintain a breathable atmosphere, produce food and treat the waste generated by astronauts.
